How to Pay for Immunizations

Resources are available for families who need assistance in paying for childhood immunizations. Learn more about ways to pay for vaccinations.

How much do vaccinations cost?

For the vast majority of families, there is no cost for immunizations for children up to the age of 19. Please see your provider for details.

Will insurance pay for vaccinations?

Most health insurance plans cover the cost of vaccines because they are considered preventative care. Check with your health insurance provider to find out what they cover.

Also, when you go to see your clinician, request that preventative care is billed as the primary reason for your visit. In many cases, your health insurance plan will cover the entire cost of the visit.

What assistance is available for someone who cannot afford to pay for vaccinations?

If you don't have insurance, or if your insurance does not cover vaccines, the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program may be able to help. This program covers the cost of vaccines for doctors who serve eligible children. Children younger than 19 years of age are eligible for VFC vaccines if they have Medi-Cal, are American Indian or Alaska Native, or have no health insurance.
